Do change some hearts
Craig Sweets recalls his first encounter with homelessness as a Boston University student when he shared warmth and food with a family by a heat grate on a snowy night. Now editor of Change of Heart, a Lawrence street newspaper launched in 1997 by and for the homeless, he notes its vendors and contributors sustain the paper and its spring issue covers local and national homelessness issues, poetry, essays and art. He later met national advocate Michael Stoops at a Kansas University event, a moment that deepened his mission.
