More Ride the Rods in Spite of Dust Storms
Chicago reporters note a rising wave of younger hobos and migratory workers riding freight trains across the nation, driven by spring demand and dust storms. Detectives say youths aged 15 to 20 dominate the travelers, with old hobos returning and new members joining. Many head west to towns like Town, Colorado, California, and Kansas City, while others seek work in the booming regions. Some youths cite family hardship as the motive, occasionally with teenage girls traveling with husbands.
