U S missionary killed in China war action
Dr. Walter F. Seymour, superintendent of the Presbyterian board of foreign missions hospital at Tsining in southeastern Shantung, was shot to death by a Chinese soldier on April 16. News reached Shanghai today amid fighting between nationalist and northern forces, with Tsining believed captured by nationalists. Mrs. Seymour and other missionaries are believed safe, as travel out of the area is impossible.Dr. Seymour, a Wisconsin University and Northwest graduate.

Hutchinson April 25 AP Kansas Democrats at the state convention backed representative W A Ayres as a favorite son for the presidential nomination while Reed and Smith supporters claimed a majority of the 20 national convention votes. Floyd Bennett who flew with Richard Byrd to the North Pole died at 10:50 p m from double pneumonia in Quebec. His wife was ill nearby and Commander Byrd rushed to his side. Lindbergh and Balchen were abroad in the effort to aid him, with Bennett having been brought from Lake Saint Agnes after suffering illness during the relief mission for Greenly Island. Bennett’s burial will be in Brooklyn with naval uniform for the ceremony. He rose from obscurity to become a skilled aviation mechanic and pilot in Byrd’s Greenland expedition, praised as fearless and loyal in Byrd’s book Skyward.
