Washington April 25 By directive of the attorney general W C Watts special agent of the department of justice was removed for disloyalty after admitting he furnished Representative Johnson a Republican of S D information used to attack the department in a house speech. Assistant Attorney General Holland signed the order and made it public. The department said the removal followed willful violation of department rules constituting a breach of trust.
The Mississippi and Missouri rivers should be developed for cheap, practical water transportation to prevent rail-induced delays. Representative Crown and A Newton urged expansion at the Mississippi Valley Association. they argued rail rates hurt water transit and stressed Missouri River use from Kansas City to the sea for wheat, flour, and industrial exports, noting limited congressional interest in river projects.
St Louis April 25. Three bandits held up about forty passengers on a street car and escaped with a satchel containing $70,000 in cancelled checks. The satchel was being taken to a downtown bank by Theodore Besiener, 76, a messenger for the North Western Trust Company. The armed robbery marked the sixth street car heist in the city this year. The bandits paid one dollar to the conductor for a ride and did not wait for change.
In Fort Worth a severe storm labeled Terri Fic causes flooding that leaves eleven dead and around fifteen hundred people uninsured or displaced. Government and relief agencies mobilize aid as residents face rescue and reconstruction challenges in the aftermath.
Fort Worth suffers extreme flood damage after a storm dumping nine inches of rain in twelve hours. Eleven people drown and about 1500 become homeless amid a crippled water plant and public utilities. Interurban traffic halts and streetcar service fails as rescue efforts use ambulances and cars. The flood peak reaches 36.7 feet, higher than 1908 but less deadly in spread.
The Country Club stockholders voted to postpone the swimming pool construction this year and retire about 3000 of water notes used to extend city water to the clubhouse. The pool may be reconsidered next year, while club house improvements proceed without delay.

Veterans recount campaigns Belmont Missouri through Appomattox with a campfire talks songs sketches prayers and the Star Spangled Banner led by the Veterans Glee Club. The program announced by D B Hunnicutt chair includes invokes by Rev Bolton America sung by the audience and closing benediction.
Lady Astor argues in New York that press unity can link nations through trade and confidence between capital and labor and government. She urges practical politics via work and trade, praising American foreign correspondents and noting Europe looks to America for peace and leadership.
The City Board of Religious Education plans a non sectarian program this summer in Lawrence for kindergarten to junior high students. Bible stories moral tales and expressive activities will teach religious living with daily sessions from late morning to early afternoon starting June 22 for five weeks.
The University stage presented A Regular Prince last night to a large audience. William Brehm, a junior, wrote the third prize winning play. Armena Rumberger delivered a standout performance with strong work from Margaret Matthews and Irene Boyer. Gus Lauterback played the Prince with excellent comic timing, and Walter Blaker added lively humor in another key role.
Informal conferences on a veteran bonus bill between Senate Finance Committee members and veterans organizations ended in Washington on April 25. Chairman McGumber said plans proceed to work out details before presenting to President Harding. Veterans expressed satisfaction with a twenty year endowment insurance proposal linked to the adjusted service certificate feature allowing bank borrowings.
Charles Sessions of the Topeka Daily Capital addressed Lawrence Chamber of Commerce urging merchants to pool funds to advertise the University. He argued factories bring money but also dirt and crime, and urged using local papers as show windows for the city, proposing a $500 effort to attract 1000 extra students. The plan won unanimous support from about eighty members and was assigned to the Down Town University Committee. Chancellor Lindley praised Sessions for aiding the University during the legislature.

General Pershing testified before the senate military commission arguing that with adequate military preparation under strong leadership the United States could have prevented World War I. He warned that failing to recognize envy and hatred among nations has left the U S unprepared, causing loss of life and financial strain.
A class of fourteen Master Masons was elected to receive Scottish Rite degrees by Zerbal Lodge at Perfection No. 5. The conferring began at 7:20 PM at the Masonic Temple with a full week of activities for the Valley of Lawrence Orient of Kansas. Registration started at 4:30 PM, with plans to double the class size by then. A temple banquet Friday night will host all Scottish Rite members and their lady guests.

Lawrence inaugurates a renamed former YMCA building as the Community House to host the Lawrence Community Service Association campaign. Speakers include W O Pennell of Southwestern Bell, Dr J E Young of United Light and Power, Roy Cross of Kansas City, FP Shedden of the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul railway, and Prof C C Williams on Transportation.
The survey of the high school and junior high school by the bureau of school service at the university began this morning with spelling and composition tests conducted by Prof. F. P. O'Brien and university staff. Additional tests will be held in the senior high school Thursday morning.
