Antiques expert appraises windmill woodcut at Know Your Antiques event
Lawrence resident Davis bought a windmill woodcut depicting Topeka and Lawrence after experts confirmed its regional significance. Kansas artist Margaret Whittemore’s work drew praise as Sophie Beasley and Dirk Soulis evaluated textiles and metal pieces at the Watkins Museum of History. Davis paid 125 dollars for the piece later valued around 500. Dirk Soulis also identified a late 1700s Peter Bateman silver creamer owned by Jay Haugh as likely authentic.
