Ben Heeney's 2011 Kansas season a year of waiting
Linebacker Ben Heeney endured a wasted year on KU's 2011 defense, watching from the sideline as the Jayhawks strove. He later emerged as a standout sophomore, finishing third in the Big 12 with 112 tackles and earning second-team All-Big 12 honors, after a frustrating start that left him unused on scrimmage plays.

Firebirds and Lions focus on league after festival
Free State High baseball coach Mike Hill held Dane McCullough back after the River City Baseball Festival to protect bullpen depth as the Firebirds (11-1) prepared for Sunflower League play. Anthony Miele, Jacob Caldwell, and Joe Dineen starred in wins and near misses, with Caldwell delivering a walk-off hit and four RBIs while Caldwell’s defense anchored the infield. The team aims to contend for the league title as BV Northwest handed Free State its first loss, and the next key test comes against Olathe South in a rearranged schedule due to weather.
