Fieldhouse fire safety funding under review

Kansas legislators consider an omnibus bill with more than 1 million dollars for Allen Fieldhouse renovations at Kansas University after the fire marshal flagged upper tier exits as unsafe. Dutch gardener joins U S exchange program at Peace Garden Center

Eli Van Der May, a 21 year old from the Netherlands, works at Peace Garden Center and Greenhouse as part of a National FFA worker exchange. She describes friendly staff, differences between Dutch and American garden centers, and plans to explore the United States while living abroad for a year. She speaks four languages and chose the program after years of wishing to work in the United States.

Lexicographer Soukhanov Discusses New Dictionary Additions

KU speaker Anne Soukhanov, editor of the American Heritage Dictionary, announced 10 000 new words and 6 000 new meanings in the revised edition. She noted changes reflect evolving language, with a panel of 170 scholars vetting terms and examples such as AIDS. She named Gulf War syndrome and frankenfood as potential fourth edition entries.
