Salina Kansas reached 105 degrees as an April heat record, part of a central U.S. surge with eighteen cities reporting record highs. Federal investigators probe pharmacist Robert Courtney for diluting 72 drugs dating back to 1992 affecting about 400 doctors and 4,200 patients. Public health officials in Kansas and Missouri coordinate notifications as authorities pursue how and when dilutions occurred.
Aaron P. Howard 23 faced second degree murder child abuse and endangering welfare charges in the death of his 7 month old son Lee Aarion. An autopsy found hemorrhaging in both eyes and trauma to the head after police were called to Howard's home. A preliminary hearing is set for May 6. Howard reportedly admitted frustration from crying and placed a pillow over the child's head.
