Millennium Twist nets buzz from Miramar mechanic inventor
Ralph Millen, a 45 year old Florida car repairman and part time artist, invented the Millennium Twist to stop lateral line twist in Texas style rigging. He and detective Walter Schatzel patented the device, partnered with Eagle Claw, Bullet weights, and Culprit worms, and market it from a Miramar shop with 200000 worms and 1.2 million hooks. The product ships from his garage and will air on Home Shopping Network after early tests with pro anglers.

Weather, La Niña Triples Woes for Kansas Bass Anglers
In unsettled spring weather, La Niña keeps waters unpredictable and winds gusting as bass fishing falters. Despite cold fronts and snow, warm plant heated reservoirs lure wipers and bass while anglers like Jim Joy at Perry Lake and Terry Bivins at Melvern Lake find pockets of success with several fish on calmer days.

Elk and deer harvest in Colorado falls in 1999
Colorado hunters took about 29 600 deer and 39 700 elk in 1999 down from 1998 levels as warm weather kept many animals out of range. Only 17 percent of 239 109 hunters succeeded, with elk herd size objectives unmet and antlerless elk licenses set to rise in 2000 amid habitat and livestock conflicts.

Deer applications go online May 1 for nonresidents and mid June for residents. Online sales are slightly higher due to credit card verification, while applications and other material remain free. In March the site drew nearly 24 000 hits, driven by waterfowl and fishing reports and direct links beyond the home page.
