The sixth annual Take Our Daughters to Work Day is Thursday. Roy Williams and his Kansas University basketball staff direct the Roy Williams Basketball Camp with sessions June 14-18, July 26-30, and August 2-6. The camp teaches basketball fundamentals through lectures, practice, and league games for ages 8 to 19, with college and pro players assisting. Lawrence golf options include Alvamar CC, Alvamar Public, Orchards, and Lawrence Country Club, with Eagle Bend opening this summer.

Lawrence briefs FSHS to recognize outstanding students
About 90 Free State High School students will receive the Principal's Mark of Excellence Award during ceremonies that begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the high school's auditorium. The event is co-sponsored by Douglas County Bank, Glenn Livingood Penzler Architects, Mr. Gatti's, Oread Inc., and SuperTarget. The award recognizes excellence in academics, attendance, citizenship and activities, with a reception to follow.

Teen in fair condition after moped accident
A 13 year old Mission girl Mary L Dart suffered a broken right femur when she crashed a moped Sunday at Clinton Lake. She was transported by Life Flight to Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City Kansas.

Lawrence police report numerous thefts and damages including a $1,000 loss to a 1995 Acura Integra with three large dents in a parking lot and a stolen toolbox worth 1,250 from a home garage. Additional incidents include a stereo and CDs stolen from a car, a coat with a diamond ring and cash missing from a McDonald’s, and a car stereo theft with a broken window. Suspects not identified.

Naomi Chiles recalls the 1957 aerial image of 23rd and Iowa streets from Friday's Journal World. She shares the farm belonged to her parents Arthur and Mary Wilson from the late 1940s to early 1970s. The site hosted her 1959 wedding reception and the 1960th wedding anniversary.
