KU business school honors two distinguished alumni
The Kansas University School of Business honors two graduates with the 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award. David Booth of Austin, Texas, founder of Dimensional Fund Advisors, and David Murfin, president of Murfin Drilling Co. in Wichita, received the recognition Thursday. Booth, a KU economics and MBA graduate, purchased James Naismith’s original 13 basketball rules in 2010 for 4.3 million dollars and donated them to KU, with plans to display in Booth Family Hall of Athletics at Allen Fieldhouse. He outbid a friend who would have sent the rules to Duke, a choice he says KU residents prefer. Booth noted no single magic bullet for student success.
