Ninth Circuit overturns three strikes for minor priors
The Ninth Circuit on a 2 1 vote overturned a 25 to life sentence for a California shoplifter Isaac Ramirez. The court ruled two prior convictions were unarmed robbery and not serious enough to justify the harsh term despite Supreme Court upholding similar sentences for others. A separate ruling affirmed Clinton’s Grand Staircase monument designation over Utah lawsuits challenging the 1906 Antiquities Act.
