Missouri Valley to Retain Football with New Restrictions

After a heated Kansas City conference, Missouri Valley schools voted to keep football but impose limits. No athletic coach may be hired outside the faculty for the full academic year after December 1, 1910, and no student may join more than two intercollegiate teams after September 1910. Thanksgiving games are restricted to contracts, with a switch of the Kansas City game to later dates and venues.

Fullerton Company Offers Cup For Lawrence High Athletes

The Fullerton Athletic Company of Topeka offers two silver loving cups to the Lawrence High School class with the chance to win the championship in baseball. A series of seven games will decide the winner, with engraving on the cup. April 20 reports from Topeka Kansas say a heavy frost chilled the region with surface thermometers at 30 degrees. Gardens in low areas and growing crops suffered severely, while some fruit had advanced enough to escape major damage. Northwest Missouri also faced frost and crop loss, with estimates of 25 to 76 percent damage in the area. Kansas City notes a gas shortage amid a shift to oil burning in cement plants, spurring a statewide move to oil-fueled kilns within months. In Leavenworth, a former cabinet member was sentenced to ten years for murder after an attack on a farmer and attempted assault on his wife.

Frost Kills Frost Damage to Fruit and Vegetation

Across three days a harsh frost struck, badly hurting potatoes and peas and injuring fruit in low areas while uplands fared better. Hopes were that fruit might recover as fruit growers assessed blossoms, apples, and strawberries. Weather cleared after clouds and winds allowed the frost to take effect.
