War Gave Prairie Over To The Plow In Kansas
Topeka reports that from 1915 to 1931 western Kansas shifted from pasture to wheat, with wheat acreage rising from about 4.99 million to 7.43 million across 43 counties. Flooded by war demand, counties like Hamilton, Stanton, and Meade expanded wheat planting, while pasture fell from 7.86 million to 6.63 million acres. Despite gains, drought and dust storms threaten future yields, with 1914 harvests totaling 73.67 million bushels and this year projected near 21 million.

Hamilton Predicts Third Party With Huey at Head
Ellinwood Kansas April 19 John Hamilton Republican National Committeeman from Kansas predicts a third party led by Senator Huey Long. He spoke to Barton County Republicans blasting Roosevelt and the Ickes bill as promoting inflation and credit expansion. He said Roosevelt shifts blame to others and that neither Farley Tugwell Tekes Hopkins nor Wallace were elected. He argued a third party is unnecessary to defeat Roosevelt but policies fail conservatives and radicals alike.
