In the Gulf of Mexico 40 miles northeast of Corpus Christi a space-age survival capsule capsized during a tow of the Ocean Express rig. 13 crewmen died in capsule No 2 while fourteen survived in capsule No 1. The Whittaker Survival System capsules, designed to be unsinkable, broke loose in 50 mph winds and 25-foot waves.

Members of the Kecoughtan High School Concert band from Hampton Virginia arrived in Lawrence Friday to perform and tour the area. They are guests of the Lawrence High music department with two shows Monday at 1 30 and 8 p m at the school auditorium and a noon Tuesday performance at Kansas University's Kansas Union. The Lawrence High Orchestra and Symphonic Band played last week at Kecoughtan. The entourage plans a weekend visit to the Kansas Relays and local sights.
