Collecting antique decorative arts and white-glass pieces rise
Collecting has grown as hobby and market since the 1930s with Europe and American makers featured. A survey notes widespread interest, with auction houses like Quittenbaum in Munich and U.S. firms producing Britannia ware, Queen Anne items, and Syroco figures. Notable bits include Captain Marvel value at 10,000, snow globes’ rise after Paris 1878, and a 19th century hen basket from Atterbury & Co. or Challinor, Taylor & Co. The column offers care tips and how to reach Kovels for questions.

Count reasons to plant an ornamental cherry tree
There are at least seven reasons to plant an ornamental cherry according to Charles Fenyvest. Early bloom breaks winter, petals vary from single to double and fragrant to scentless, colors span pinks reds and whites, multiple tree forms suit moods from upright Yoshino to weeping Shidare Yoshino and bush cherries with edible fruit, pruning allows vertical or branching shapes, the tree endures storm damage and regrows, and its bark shows varied colors and textures through the seasons, making it a living form of beauty.
