Defendant says fatal shots were last option in bar fight
A 22-year-old Lawrence man on trial for the November 27 shooting deaths of Jim Buswell and Jerry Thompson testified he fired after he and Donald Hall were attacked at Henry T's Bar and Grill. He described a struggle over a Glock 9mm, attempts to back away, and firing when Buswell and Thompson pursued him.

Regents OK KU tenure and promotion action
Dozens of Kansas University faculty won tenure and promotion as the Kansas Board of Regents accepted Chancellor Gene Budig’s recommendations for fiscal 1994. Thirty-one KU faculty were granted tenure, with 12 promoted to full professor and 31 to associate professor. At KU Medical Center facilities 8 were promoted to full professor and 15 to associate professor. The move comes after a six year scrutiny of teaching, research and public service.

KU unveils bioscience building plans in Emporia meeting
KU officials released an architect drawing for a 7.2 million biosciences research building on West Campus with a projected 8.9 million cost including planning and landscaping. Construction may start within the year funded by 4.9 million federal dollars and 4 million in revenue bonds. The project includes 30 offices 18 labs and a 118 seat auditorium brick and stone exterior.
