Charles Dick a 1953 Kansas University graduate told the Journal-World he will join the Lawrence Outlook staff May 1 and may obtain part ownership in the Abels publishing firm. The Abels own Outlook and papers in Eudora Perry and McLouth. Dick, 24, is with Topeka Chamber public relations and was publicity director for the 1954 Territorial Centennial. He is from Hutchinson, lives in Lawrence, and commutes to Topeka. He majored in speech and history at KU with journalism minor.

Officers Still Checking K U Housemother Case
Lawrence police chief John Hazelet said the assault investigation at a Kansas University fraternity housemother has reached a stalemate but will continue until all leads are exhausted. He noted no conclusive evidence the attacker was a Negro and said the victim could only identify the sound of the attacker’s voice. The housemother, hospitalized after the attack, has since left for Iowa.

Two Taverns Hit By Burglars Overnight
Two taverns north of Lawrence on U S Highway 40 59 reported burglaries this morning. Flat Top Tavern lost eight cases of beer and had coin machines broken with $40 to $70 in damage. Tee Pee Barbeque lost about $110 from coin machines, cash register untouched. Entry at Flat Top was via a pad lock front door. Tee Pee entry came through a rear door. Disturbance by two unidentified youths at Tee Pee earlier in the evening noted, but no link found.

Vaccine Weak for Most 1954 State Polio Shots
TOPEKA Kan state health official reports most children who received the Salk polio vaccine in 1954 did not gain full protection. Dr Philip Beary the state epidemiologist said the vaccine was overcooked and not dangerous. The National Polio Foundation will seek booster shots to raise immunity.
