Housing rehabilitation accelerates in Lawrence efforts

The Lawrence city housing rehabilitation program will spend $217000 in a third year Community Development grant to fund about 30 grants up to $6500 each for target areas North East and Far East Lawrence and Pinckney. A $50000 winterization and a $15000 exterior fix up program will start later with federally backed loans for more extensive renovations. Mrs Potts benefitted from contractor donations and local support lowering costs as the program expands.

Renovation eligibility for city housing grants and loans

The Community Development department offers grants up to $6 500 for low income owner occupants and loans up to $17 400 per dwelling unit for repairs in designated target areas East Far East North Lawrence and Pinckney. Loans at 3 percent can fund code compliance and up to 40 percent for general improvements. multi unit loans have different standards. Income limits on a sliding scale determine eligibility with examples: two person $5 760 one person $4 800 four persons $6 910.

Judges report extra income from district court in Kansas

Douglas County three district judges filed state ments of extra judicial income with the Kansas Supreme Court clerk under Canon 6. Judge Frank Gray reported no outside income. James W. Paddock listed 3500 from KU Law School and 500 from Rice Foundation. Associate Judge Mike Elwell noted 150 for private adoption and 450 from Dickerson Brothers Construction. Canon requires annual disclosure of quasi and extrajudicial earnings with no risk of perceived influence on duties.
