Santa Clara Sinks After Severe Seas Near Eureka
The North Pacific Steamship Santa Clara foundered about four miles off Eureka after a heavy sea struck and water rapidly flooded the hull. All 95 aboard were saved by the tug Ranger, which reached deep water near Table Bluff and brought passengers and crew to Eureka. The Roanoke will recover the survivors.

Charles Albright of Marion township was drawn into a fire extinguisher graft scheme in Osage Franklin and nearby Kansas counties. A man named T A Crane obtained extinguishers and signs a contract making Albright responsible.
