A blaze in Beulah damaged the general merchandise store operated by S. F. Hyndman. Thieves reportedly entered the shop late last night and stole goods valued at about six dollars, including rhces, groves, and ellections. Police investigation underway.
Topeka Kans Apol W4 Guil ford Dudley a retired private banker and pioneer died today of a complication of diseases. Excursion to Kansas City Santa Fe Sunday April 16 round trip tickets at Santa Fe depot Train leaves at 9 a m. Everybody invited.
Miss Susan Anthony faced intense opposition as the National Council of Women adopted a resolution to study divorce causes and cooperation with church and state. Anthony argued divorce is not an evil and vowed she would not support measures that cut women off from refuge from brutal men.
A Manila dispatch reports an American hospital ship under Captain Rayestyenski preparing to arrive at the base hospital ship Ure on April 1. The ship will take on provisions medicines and medical staff before resuming its mission to aid wounded personnel.

Austrian immigrant Kroesnik was found dead in a Yale area saloon room about a mile west of Yale Kansas after an evening of drinking. County Attorney Woods and Dr Patton concluded death from heart trouble likely due to overdrinking. He had worked locally for about fourteen years and left no known relatives in the United States.
Topeka Kansas April 1 Kuosay Natural Gias company secured the right of way for its pipe line to the Topeka city limits. A city franchise has also been granted. The line will run from Chanute via Ottawa and Lawrence and is expected to furnish Topeka by September.
Topeka April 14 federal grand jury adjourned after nineteen indictments for minor offenses. No full investigation begun yet. Commissioner Arfield will compile data and, if criminal material is found, the Department of Justice may seek a special grand jury to probe the matter.
Horace J. Smith files in district court to recover 2400 dollars claimed from the ferret process tax. Evidence suggests real estate values are about half of assessed value for personal property. Additional items cover road bonds, smallpox in Topeka, a Kansas reading book contract dispute, a mine owner killed by falling ore tub, a sunstroke while snow shoveling, and the Columbia Herald sale after 35 years of ownership.
Topeka April 1 A hundred Santa Fe boilermakers in Topeka halted work claiming botched non union repairs from western Santa Fe shops. They say faulty labor was sent to them to fix and warn other plants may join the walkout.
Mystic Brit and Eye Works a New Jersey corporation based in Medford was placed in receivership today. Clarence M. Merriam, a well known Kansls man and investor, is named by petitioners in court filings. Merriam allegedly received $13,400 in demand notes and other notes, with strings attached that funds would not be sold until a bond sale of 277,000 was completed.
Report from Tokio states Japanese forces defeated an enemy unit seven miles east of Yingpan on the morning of the tenth. Our troops then occupied Tsungshib nineteen miles east of Yingpan as enemy forces retreated toward Hallumy. No change in Changtu or Fahkmen districts. occasional cavalry skirmishes noted.
County Attorney Roberts warns Emporia druggists to slow sales after a local shop averages thirty six liquor purchases daily. Temperance groups protest the high volume amid health complaint links. In New York indictments, Nan Patterson and partners face conspiracy charges dropped against Caesar Young case.

Five persons were badly hurt and hundreds driven from tenements as a seven story sweat shop building on Sleater street burned out of control. The blaze extended to nearby structures and lit the lower city. Estimated loss around 100000 dollars.
Osteola Iowa April 14 Dr Crafford of the Lamovi sanitarium today was found guilty of the murder of Maude Stonew girl who died in the hospital after a criminal operating four years ago. Crafford was convicted once before and sentenced to thirteen years for second degree murder.
Reports state Russian force retreating toward Hsug King has reached Kirin. A rear guard of about 12,009 remains near Harbung Cheng, probing the Japanese vanguard. Other items note Commissioner Garfield's Ottawa mission, an apparent fiery incident at North Ottawa junction, opening day baseball in St Louis, and a major fire in Springvale with losses near £300,000.
The spring meeting of the federation of women’s clubs assembled in the Carnegie Library basement. Attendees from member clubs filled the room as the food relief fund reported a balance of 86.1 dollars. A 40 dollar gift to the city library fund was approved for pen books, with a five member committee named to select volumes. The state federation will meet in Topeka May 1 2 and Lawrence clubs will host next. A musical program followed with performances by Miss Ante Shepard and Mrs Madge Martin among others.

A revival meeting at the Second Baptist Church in Baldwin led by Rev. H. S. Jones of North Lawrence concluded with three additional conversions and eleven awaiting baptism. Church members say such a revival hasn’t occurred in years and Jones will conduct services at his home church on Sunday. The Baldwin meeting closes tonight.
Mr. Holmes addressed a Christian church audience last night as the meeting neared its close. Interest remains strong and services wind down with tonight’s sermon on The History of Sprinkling. No services are held tomorrow eight.
A mild smallpox scare hits Baldwin with one or two children showing symptoms. To prevent spread, a public school room was closed for a few days. The Leavenworth baseball team visits Kansas University tomorrow at McCook field at 3 pm, while Warrensburg faces Haskell at Haskell field. Mrs. William J. Busch hosts a humble party at 1311 New Hampshire Street. Miss Caroline Doubleday travels to Kansas City for the weekend. A piano for sale at 625 Ohio Street.
Wheat and other grain quotes show May and July futures with mixed gains and declines. Corn and oats futures span April through September with varying prices. dairy and eggs listed with small changes. Livestock futures for hogs and cattle appear with minimal shifts.
The Church of God held its annual Feast of the Passover in Emporia Kansas with state representation. Bishop Crowder attended from Philadelphia and presided as feet washing and lamb cooking were performed amid a diverse congregation.
