Germany and Russia to swap World War II trophy art
Berlin and Moscow agreed to exchange looted artworks from World War II including elements of the Amber Room. Germany would return thousands of items still stored in museums while Russia seeks broader restitution of books, paintings and other culturally valuable pieces. The Amber Room mosaic and a chest of drawers would move to Germany in exchange for Bremen based works by Durer, Manet, Goya and Toulouse Lautrec.
