Wright Keeps Jazz Alive at KU Across Decades

Dick Wright, 65, KU jazz instructor and historian, builds a vast archive and teaches a popular course that fills up quickly. He donated 20 000 jazz recordings to KU, hosts The Jazz Scene on KANU FM for 37 years, and earned multiple honors while shaping KU jazz studies from near nothing to a strong program. He plans partial retirement but will continue teaching at KU and other colleges, plus his radio show and occasional singing engagements.
