Kansas AG moves to bar out-of-state governor candidates

Kansas lawmakers face April 30 deadline on funding bill

Kansas officials revealed an error in a school funding measure after state education officials posted spreadsheets showing the bill would add about 71 million dollars for 2018 19 instead of the intended 151 million. The error reduces Lawrence district funding to about 1.2 million next year versus 3.4 million. Conservatives argued the bill is too costly and liberals say it lacks enough funds to satisfy the Supreme Court. House and Senate debates stretched past midnight with no extension plan. Senators Caryn Tyson and others urged revisiting the bill on April 26. Democrats proposed a 185 million five year infusion which failed. Supporters say the measure would restore funding to 2008 levels adjusted for inflation. If a fix is offered, Rep. Ed Trimmer plans to reintroduce the amendment. Governor Colyer and lawmakers expressed willingness to correct the bill to a 534 million five year increase.
