Bird blamed for Kansas Turnpike one car crash
Burt W. Aller 34 of Kansas City Missouri escaped injury when his truck veered into the medial strip about a mile west of the Lawrence service area. He ducked as he thought a bird would hit the windshield. The truck traveled 150 feet, struck a sign, and stopped after another 150 feet. County Coroner Dr. Jim Reed announced no cause of death has been determined for Nebraska University student John Melvin Abrahamzon who died early Saturday in Lincoln. Mrs David Higgins Injured in Morning Car Crash
Mrs David Higgins 22 of Route 1 sustained a severe head injury in a two car crash at 6th and Ind Streets just before 8 am. She was riding with her husband against Marilyn F Singer 23 of 612 W 7th Street. Higgins regained consciousness after about two hours and was kept for observation at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Total damage to both cars was $400.
