Moscow April 11 AP Thirty three of 83 men stranded on a drifting ice floe in the Bering Sea were rescued by Russian airmen late last night and early today. Planes rushed to the rescue of the remaining 50 imperilled castaways as Kaminin Molokov and Slepney brought twelve more to safety at Cape Van Karem in Siberia. Slepney had previously reached the site with a damaged plane, while the group had been part of the Wrangel Island expedition led by Prof Otto Schmidtey after the Cheliuskin vessel sank February 13 on the return trip.

Physician to Repay Debt by Offering Free Care in Leavenworth
Dr Stewart McKee a longtime Leavenworth physician announced his intent to devote the remainder of his practice to providing free medical care to anyone in need in Leavenworth as repayment for the city and county support. Suspect dies in jail in Trussel murder case
Clarence Atherton a 46 year old neighbor charged with first degree murder in the death of Ray Trussell died in Johnson county jail after slashing his throat and suffering pleural pneumonia brought on by blood loss and exposure. Trussell's body was found in an abandoned well near Holden after he had been missing about two weeks. Sheriff says no clear motive but bullets from two weapons found in Trussell's body.

Streamline train draws big crowd in North Lawrence
A large crowd gathered in North Lawrence to inspect Union Pacific’s new streamline train. In two and a half hours 6 602 visitors passed through the two passenger cars as officials coordinated crowd control with local police sheriffs and guardsmen from Haskell Institute. First hour saw 2 600 visitors viewing the interior of the 204 foot train, which weighs less than a standard Pullman car despite aluminum construction. The 600 horsepower diesel engine allows speeds up to 110 mph, with safety features and air conditioning. Officials aboard included J J Haugh and N A Williams among others from Omaha and Kansas City. About 24 invited guests rode to Kansas City, Missouri.
