Britain signals firm stance over Corfu and Greece while Italy strengthens in the Dodecanese. The cabinet contemplates guarantees for Greece and Turkey, denounces the 1938 pact, and may recall Parliament to outline policy amid rising tensions in the eastern Mediterranean.
Paris reported that France and Great Britain discussed a two hour defense council meeting on Easter day about possible joint military and naval demonstrations to support eastern European allies. Observers warned Greek waters may see French and British warships if Mussolini expands in Albania.
Virginio Gayda in Il Giornale DItalia rebukes American critics of Italy and Germany over Albania. He warns the United States to stop threats and intrusions and to handle its own internal problems while Europe defends itself. A tornado-like windstorm tore through McPherson County early today. A two story farmhouse ten miles south of town was wrecked injuring three of four occupants including Mrs. Charles Dixon and her daughters Margaret 11 and Betty 9 who are hospitalized with minor injuries. Widespread damage hit Hollow-Nikkle and Ritz-Canton oil fields with one overturned derrick in each field and smaller sheds overturned. Minor damage reported in Inman Moundridge Galva Canton and Roxbury. Small buildings and granaries toppled and an empty grain bin blown over a mile. Rain followed with .13 inch in McPherson.
Political circles report that Premier Mussolini may install a puppet king in Albania to fill the throne vacated by King Zog. Three Savoy princes are named as possibilities: the Duke of Aosta the Duke of Pistoia and the Duke of Berrgamo, all cousins of Vittorio Emanuele.
James Owens a 30 year old Kansas City man pleaded guilty in district court to the securities investment company robbery on January 28. He was sentenced to the Kansas state penitentiary at Lansing.
Marian Anderson, the Negro contralto, performed outdoors at twilight before an estimated crowd of 75,000 between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. Police reported a large turnout applauding the singer near the heroic statue of Abraham Lincoln.
Rome reports the Italian army has been reinforced with reservists to about 950000, with January 1 strength at 300000. Sources say call up aims to bolster general preparedness amid European tension and alliances against dictatorial powers. Troop reinforcements to Libya, the Dodecanese, and Albania are linked to the mobilization.

Wind damaged Finney county farms with Kalvesta area most severely hit. Two barns and two machine sheds were demolished and a farm home moved from its foundation. Several windmills blown down and extensive glass loss in homes and schoolhouses. Hail followed a severe dust storm.
John Jacobs was elected president of the Lawrence Rotary Club at a board meeting today. Corlett Cotton was named vice president, Karl Klooz secretary, and C B Russell treasurer and sergeant at arms, all reelected. New officers will assume July 1. Walter Keeler retires as president.
Charles B. Russell took the oath of office at city hall with City Clerk J. W. Stone and became mayor succeeding Alfred Lawrence. Harry Nevin was sworn in as first ward councilman. the next council meeting is set for April 24, with an organization session likely beforehand.
Alphonse L. McCormack of St Louis told the government he acted as go-between for T J Pendergast and Chicago official Charles R Street in a Missouri insurance rate settlement. He described a February 1935 Chicago meeting with Pendergast and Street. the government will press charges tied to a Missouri compromise from that session.
Charles H. Manley, Sr., 88, of Junction City Kansas, helped build the Kansas Pacific railroad and spent 31 years in banking. For 22 years he co ran a weekly paper with his son Charles H. Manley, Jr. Survived by his widow, nine children and five stepchildren, and by daughter in law Mrs. George J. Hood of Junction City, who left for the city yesterday.
An Easter dawn service at Ogden Hill near Junction City Kansas drew about 7000 worshippers from Junction City and Fort Riley. The Rev Paul E Johnson of Junction City First Baptist delivered the sermon as massed choirs sang an anthem at sunrise.
Kansas state tax data for 1938 indicates corporations paid an average $28.61 less tax and individuals $38.34 less than 1937. A total of 2,291 corporations paid $102,885, and individuals remitted $477,309 from 43,370 returns. average corporate and individual returns declined to $46.74 and $11 respectively. Officials project 1938 revenues under $2,000,000, about $600,000 below last year.
Mrs Roberta Campbell Lawson of Tulsa Oklahoma will be the commencement speaker with Dean R A Schwegler from the University of Kansas education school as baccalaureate speaker. Baccalaureate on May 21 and commencement May 22 with Spaulding announcing the program. Lawson has held leadership roles in federations and national commissions and is connected to several Oklahoma and national organizations. Her late husband Eugene B Lawson and son Edward Campbell Lawson are noted.
Kansas will require drivers with revoked or suspended licenses to prove financial responsibility by carrying liability insurance. Operators who fail to pay court judgments within 30 days after an accident will have licenses automatically revoked or suspended. Statutes from 1939 to be published by late spring.
James S. Patrick, 78, longtime Haskell county resident since 1886, died Saturday night in Satanta. His widow, Mae Patrick, is a noted club woman, Republican activist, and writer.
Milton Scott, 52, a McPherson county farmer, died from injuries after a motor car collision south of McPherson last Monday. He passed away last night. Survived by his mother Mrs. Sarah Scott.

Capone was not summoned to testify as planned. Bail set at 5 000 for two defendants remained. Government tallied Torrio income at 332 648.82 with 209 115.65 unidentifiable income.
