Washington officials warned that federal intervention could occur if railroad employes’ stoppages paralyze transport and threaten meat and food shipments. Officials indicated leaders may clash with strike organizers, as the White House sought suitable public representation for the rail board. May act if the stoppage endures, with Fed authorities prepared to cope with disrupted mail and express services.
Unsettled weather expected in Kansas with possible local rain. Warmer southeast tonight, cooler Sunday, strong winds. Temperatures show yesterday evening and today morning and afternoon readings with noted max and min values.
In Pittsburg Kansas four thousand miners were reported idle at nine o clock as pay day reduced work to half. About forty mines are affected with over 12,000 miners in the district. Attorney T H Callery said a writ of habeas corpus appeal might free men from jail. By noon no demonstration by Howat supporters appeared at Hivard.
About one hundred dollars was raised at Holloway hall last night by the ladies of south Lawrence for the Social Service hospital. The gross receipts go to the hospital, with cake walks and novelty stunts replacing pies. Walter Dobex acted as auctioneer as nearly every pie sold well, highest bids reaching 3.50. J L Newhouse and Edwin Schreiber supplied music for a hall filled to capacity. The organizing committee included Mrs John Akers, Mrs Albert Graeber, Mrs M A Karnes, and Mr Al Graeber.
A. A. Helwig filed suit in district court against W. A. Dunn seeking 877.18 plus an accounting on 4400 profits from a joint venture. Helwig says he furnished funds to fulfill a contract and that a written contract omitted a profit distribution clause, allegedly to cheat and defraud him.
Washington April 10 the Republican joint resolution declaring the state of war with Germany at an end was adopted by the house and now goes to the senate. The passage vote was 243 to 150 with 22 Democrats supporting and two Republicans voting against.
University cabinet members met in Chancellor Frank Strong's Fraser Hall office to review the budget, mirroring topics raised at the University assembly. Red Cross nurse Lucy Dougherty will speak Sunday at Plymouth Church on her Prague years and work in Czecho-Slovakia, drawing public interest.

Edward Hughes was stabbed below the heart by Edward White after a dispute over a picture. The wound is not fatal. Hughes expected to recover in about three weeks. Miss Ella Engle has returned from a visit with Dr. and Mrs. McCreight in Oskaloosa. Mrs. Gaunt of Milton Kansas is visiting Mrs. J. B. Mack. Stania Van Mensil spent yesterday in Topeka.
A cyclist named Curd escaped serious injury after being struck by a car at Sixth and Massachusetts streets but sustained only bruises. Separately, Senate plans to investigate the strike were finalized by Chairman Cunmins of the Senate Interstate Commerce Committee, with hearings to begin Tuesday.

Felix Broeker was acquitted by a Salina county district court jury last night of aiding and abetting H. J. Lefferdink in issuing four certificates of deposit for 25 000 dollars each at the Kansas State Bank. Lefferdink, the cashier, faced the same charges. The trial began Monday morning and the jury returned a verdict at 3 p.m. yesterday.

London April 10 a brief cabinet meeting discussed the outline of the answer to the French note regarding occupation of Frankfort and other German cities before Premier Lloyd George sailed for San Remo. The British note rejects unilateral action and seeks allied consensus with France on the Rhine crisis.
Vienna reports satisfaction over dispatches describing dissonance between Great Britain and France regarding France sending troops into German cities east of the Rhine.
