A street car crash in Kansas City Missouri killed W L Burggrabe a 45 year old plumber and injured five others. Ten people were cut and burned when the car struck a curve while slowing down.
A severe storm system swept through the southern states causing fatalities in Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas. Reports indicate six deaths in Oklahoma and Louisiana, with the Dallas area tally reaching fifteen dead as cleanup and rescue operations continue.
Western Kansas endures one of the worst spring blizzards in years with rain sleet and heavy snow driven by a strong north wind. Wires down from Salina westward. trains delayed as New Mexico and Texas report damage and deaths from the storm system.
In a preliminary hearing before Justice John Clark Eddy was bound over for trial in the May term of the Douglas county district court on an arson charge. The state contends Eddy set fire to his home at 1824 Barker Avenue on February 2. Witnesses testified to staged explosions and kerosene odors, with Eddy providing two differing narratives to officials. The defense attorney did not present a defense at this stage.
New York April 9 Sidney Drew veteran stage and screen actor died at his home after contracting uremia from nephritis. He was 54 native of New York and had acted with his wife in Keep Her Smiling in Detroit last week before illness worsened. His son Sidney Rankin Drew was killed in France during World War I.
Lawrence Odd Fellows announce plans for the largest lodge temple in Kansas to be built at Ninth and Vermont across from the Carnegie library. The two story building will include lodge spaces on upper floors, offices on the first floor, a large basement dining hall, bowling alleys, card and billiard rooms, with work delayed until prices drop and the site improved in the meantime.
Red Cross campaign exceeded its two ton quota by supplying about three tons of garments for refugees in Europe. Clothes shipped to Brooklyn for overseas shipment. Lawrence led with 3,557 items totaling 3,140 pounds, Black Jack and Baldwin provided 1,700 pounds, Lecompton 250 pounds, Eudora unavailable due to no wire.
W. G. C. Simons praised Hi Y Club members for their role in the campaign for the new $230,000 Liberty Memorial high school. Plans outlined for a two day fundraising drive with the W. G. A. campaign cooperation. A joint chapel will be held Monday at the high school building.

The final tax sale will have its first publication tomorrow per county treasurer I. C. Stevenson. The listed property was bid in by the county three years ago and the sale will not occur until September 6.
Kansas Good Roads association contest shows the second worst road lies between Lawrence and Clinton in Douglas county. A. R. Oatman won $15 for a mud hole photo from the Lawrence post office. Gridley’s entry won first prize for a road south of Gridley. third prize went to a Ne tana to Wetmore stretch. Over seventy photos entered since February to aid road propaganda.
Lawrence Rotarians hear four soldiers describe time in France. Metcalf outlines phased homecomings for Company H and Battery B and notes many troops will return individually. Speakers include Zentmyer Farria Weede and Finch Kelley with stories of injuries and air service. Next meeting led by the membership committee.

Engineers and law students at the University will debate Universal Military Training in Fraser Chapel tomorrow at 5 PM. The winning team may receive a silver loving cup from Delta Sigma Rho.
