County moves toward cleaning up massive illegal tire dump south of Eudora
Douglas County Administrator Craig Weinaug said the county nears cleanup of an illegal tire dump containing almost 200,000 tires on Daniel Sturm’s 143 acre property eight miles south of Eudora. KDHE and D&D Tire Inc. discussed options including state abatement grants and cost sharing after decades of dumping before the 1990 Waste Tire Management Act took effect.

Downtown Lawrence Inc. hosts Easter bonnet making at Eldridge Hotel Pocket Park starting 9 30 a m. for children ages 3 to 8, about 500 expected. They parade to Lawrence Arts Center where Seem-to-Be-Players perform The Great Easter Egg Hunt with shows at 10 30 a m 1 30 p m 3 30 p m and 7 30 p m. Communities unite to seek drug prevention grant
About 50 local groups in Lawrence discussed using a potential Kansas Health Foundation grant to fund a drug prevention program. A 25-person meeting at the DCCCA Center included parents, schools, police, hospital, housing authority and Project Phoenix leader Judge Jean Shepherd. Four more planning sessions are set for April and May ahead of a May grant proposal deadline, with winners announced in August.
