Child support bill advances amid federal condition tensions
Kansas House Judiciary Committee weighs SB140 to expand child support powers for SRS and allow subpoenas of financial records, wage inferences, and DNA tests. The bill aims to secure $29 million in federal funds but draws concern over executive branch power and constitutional rights. Opponents warn of Big Brother fears while supporters push alignment with federal mandates. The measure moved toward a floor vote amid mixed support and potential edits to satisfy federal requirements.
