William A. Starin of Columbus Ohio former chairman of the Ohio University Bacteriology Department died late Friday. A KU graduate in 1906 and 1908 he earned his PhD in 1923 from Chicago University with further studies at Michigan Johns Hopkins and Columbia. He and wife Edith Wood of Lawrence wed in 1910. a Stalin Lectureship was established in his honor at Ohio University. He retired in 1948 and was a cousin of Fred Bliesner of Lawrence.

The Lawrence Board of Education approved architects plans for Centennial School expansion adding five classrooms and a new all purpose room to serve as music auditorium and gym.
