April 6 Memphis reports nine men died when a caisson explosion during New York Yon bridge construction across the Mississippi struck white workers and injured others. The incident occurred at the work site as crews toiled offshore in the river water near the river crossing.

Isaac Curd a wealthy bachelor and owner of many buildings in the Dusinces part of the city died today in Joseph Missouri. He was 81 years old and had lived a bachelor life for many years leaving behind a notable local legacy.
