In Probate Court yesterday Geo W Hamblin was tried by a jury and adjudged insane. Hamblin, a longtime prominent citizen of Olathe, left a large fortune and lived recently in Media with a wife and four children. He was highly respected and regarded as mentally capable by acquaintances.
For the Ur Berahaai and Missouri Valleys, deadly weather and rain shift to southerly winds, lower barometer, and higher temperatures. A child named Bernard Schmidt’s son drowned while wandering near his home in Kas, Sizweca.
Geo Jones a young Negro shot John Foster on Water Street shortly after 8 PM. Foster fatally wounded, doctors say he cannot recover. Jones fled and has not been apprehended. Also reports a Boston jewelry house fire destroys multiple firms and displaces 250 jewelers.
A committee investigating alleged bribery of legislators spent the day examining testimony and recalling Cleveland representative Block. The panel read through evidence collected and expects several days more before a report is ready.
The House foreign affairs committee opened proceedings with a letter from Lima dated March 25 1882 and a follow up by J R Surtrero. Shipherd read a postscript to a May 21 1881 letter and admitted publishing conduct while denying other statements. He claimed corruption charges against Minister Hurlbut and discussed related political pressures amid a Senate committee inquiry.
In Strong City Kansas at midnight G O Babb an employee of Dr Corder was fatally wounded by two negroes Walter and Bridges after a gunbattle from thirty eight caliber. Bridges was wounded in the arm and another implicated man was jailed. Whiskey is blamed for the disturbance.

Citywide Democratic majority estimated near 3,500. Pacl notes Ames wins in Minneapolis with 790 vote edge. Democrats take four aldermen. Provence reports GOP state ticket likely. five of six city aldermen in a ward race. Ex Governor Halden listed in critical condition.
