Supreme Court upholds one person one vote ruling

The Supreme Court left in place the practice of counting all residents for district apportionment, rejecting a move to use only eligible voters. The decision maintains Texas and most states’ current methods, preserving potential shifts in urban and rural representation and keeping non voters and non citizens in district calculations. Justice Ginsburg led a six member majority with Roberts and Kennedy, while Alito and Thomas concurred without endorsing voter eligible counting.
