Gaughan Chosen as County Commissioner Legislative Liaison

In a close party vote, Douglas County selects Gaughan over Highberger for the county commission vacancy. Gaughan, a Lawrence resident with state and local service, will represent the 1st district and serve until 2010, as officials prepare to approve the appointment.

AIDS Walk Planned By Douglas County AIDS Project 2009

The Douglas County AIDS Project will host a 1 mile AIDS Walk on Saturday starting at Maceli's 1031 N.H. at 8 30 a.m. Registration opens at 7 30 a.m. with a $20 fundraising minimum. All proceeds fund DCAP programs including education outreach case management and free HIV testing. Last year the event raised 17000. A KU library book sale runs Tuesday to Thursday focusing on art books and magazines with prices 3 for hardcovers 1 for paperbacks and 25 cents for magazines. Proceeds fund library resources and Books for Africa receives unsold books.
