County county fireworks sales extended by one day

Douglas County commissioners approved a one day extension for fireworks sales from July 1 to July 4 to match surrounding counties. The change comes after a request from the Douglas County Fireworks Association led by Eric Garrett and Jim Pine. State rules cap sales July 5 and June 27, and dealers pay a $100 county permit plus inspection costs. The panel may raise permit fees later and will set enforcement steps with Dabney and the Wakarusa Township Fire Department to avoid duplicate inspections.
