Deerfield faces large class sizes as district eyes cuts
Parents and Superintendent Randy Weseman clash over adding a fourth kindergarten to third grade class at Deerfield, citing funding limits and a state budget. The district plans eliminate ten elementary teaching positions for 2001 2002, risking 25 plus student primary classes at Deerfield and other schools while Deerfield second grade would remain the largest. The class size committee urged first grade caps of 17, affecting ten Lawrence elementary schools.
