Big Rise in Truck Mileage Taxes in Kansas
Topeka April 5 AP mileage taxes on trucks using Kansas highways rose sharply in the first quarter. Total receipts reached 112407.11, up from 45363.66 a year earlier. The uptick follows a January 1 1934 port of entry law requiring trucks to pass entry points or pay a road use fee. Regular tax receipts by the commission were 79912.41, while 32494.70 came from trucks without permits. 468 carrier permits were sought this quarter versus 288 last year, signaling higher compliance and fee payments as unregistered trucks registered to pay the regular tax. The report also tracks cross border truck movements among Kansas and neighboring states.
