Living off the grid in an offbeat Jefferson County shed
Look at Thompson a 28 year old who has chosen to live rent free on a farm in southern Jefferson County since 2015. His tiny dwelling, the size of a garage, sits on land owned by two organic farmers. He survives on about 300 dollars a month, trading labor for room and board while material comforts are minimal. Thompson reflects on Y2K and self sufficiency from his makeshift kitchen to the loft bed. He dreams of buying land in five years and expanding his subsistence system including solar power. He remains tied to city life through a salon job at Greenroom Salon in Lawrence and a cat named Bubba keeps him company.
