Higher ed funds shifted to school finance in Kansas bill
Kansas lawmakers push school finance plans by moving higher education funds. The Senate Ways and Means panel backed $24 million from a FICA settlement for a $75 million KU health education building, while the House sought authority for $25 million in KU bonds. Both bills head to chambers for consideration. A related transfer of $15 million from the Commerce department was also proposed.

Gun bill on track to clear Legislature
A Kansas gun rights bill cleared the Senate 34 to 2 and heads to the House. Backers aim for a swift vote as the measure would strip cities and counties of power to regulate firearms sales and storage and curb local gun ordinances. Senator Marci Francisco voices concern over municipal authority. Gov. Sam Brownback is the potential signatory.
