Lawrence eighth grader wins Kansas Geography Bee

Matthew Gaus, 14, from West Junior High School, won the Kansas Geography Bee at Fort Hays State University after about 100 sixth to eighth graders competed. He received 100 dollars and an all expense paid trip to the national finals in Washington, D.C., on May 25-26. Gaus prepared with a world almanac and National Geographic board games and answered the final question about three neighboring countries sharing a free trade agreement with Russia as the third country.
