Czech Leaders Visit Turmoil Ridden Site

In Brno a group led by President Ludvik Svoboda toured the anti Soviet unrest site amid a government push to inspect the military academy. Premier Oldrich Cernik and other officials joined. Dubcek was not listed. Soviet leaders Grechko and Semyonov remained in Prague with an ultimatum to halt anti Soviet outbursts or face occupation troops.

Chairman Halts Stratton Talks on Sheridan Tank

Rep. Samuel Stratton was ordered by Chairman L. Mendel Rivers to stop giving interviews or issuing news releases about the Sheridan tank. Rivers said the ban aims to protect troop morale in Vietnam while hearings on the tank continue in executive session this week.

Insanity Law Change Loses In Committee

The House Judiciary Committee voted 12-10 to keep the present insanity standard and approved a compromise on habitual penalties. The panel plans final action Friday on the criminal code revision already passed by the Senate. Rep. Jack Euler said other sections would be reviewed before a full House vote. The bill as Senate-passed would excuse crimes by those lacking substantial capacity to know right from wrong due to mental illness.

Phillip Stanley Boatwright and Terry Lee Clark both 18 from Topeka were indicted on six counts of possession of stolen mail and attempting to cash forged checks. The charges involve checks totaling 157.50 71 58 156.11 71 157.40 linked to Lawrence addresses. Bond set at 1500 each.

Mrs Mary Allen Hamilton 59 died Tuesday in Menlo Park California. Funeral at 11 a m Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev Harvard Wilbur in charge. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Francine Gottfried Still Draws Crowds On Street

New York AP Francine Gottfried a 21 year old Brooklyn resident and 85 a week machine operator drew crowds of up to 15 000 last September when she appeared at a subway station daily. A springtime outing in a red sweater again halted traffic as hundreds swarmed her. She has turned down offers to strip or dance topless saying she would pose only in good taste and would like a chance to show talent perhaps as a singer like Barbra Streisand. She thanks Wall Street fans and hopes to address them from the steps of the sub Treasury building.

Two Men Hospitalized After Lawrence Accidents

Lawrence police reported two men remain hospitalized after separate crashes. Ernest J. Simon 20 of 1417 E 15th St admitted to Memorial Hospital after a 7 18 p.m. two vehicle collision at 800 block Iowa St. Margaret J. Johnson 22 of 507 La St was driving the other vehicle with $525 damage to her car and $215 to Simons. Dennis B. Millard 27 of 2nd and Ark Sts suffered facial injuries and was admitted to Watkins Memorial Hospital after his car hit a utility pole on 21st St at 3 58 a.m. Damages estimated at $450 to his car and $500 to the pole. A tractor trailer rolled onto a sorority lawn at 2 25 p.m. on Iowa St after tire trouble. 65 hogs escaped unharmed and the trailer sustained $500 damage with $25 lawn damage. Dean Ray Hilton 33 of Dallas said the truck followed him after he stopped in the 1900 block of Iowa St and rolled onto the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority lawn at 2005 Stewart Ave. no tractor damage and $500 trailer damage.

A car owned by James Trabon of 1941 Stewart Ave was reported stolen overnight and found stripped early today by a Douglas County deputy sheriff five miles east and four miles south of Haskell Ave and 23rd St. Items missing include two wheels a stereo system and a chrome air breather valued at 343 dollars.

Parsons Police Arrest Youths

Parson s police arrested two youths on Wednesday and held warrants for three more as part of a rock and bottle disturbance in Parsons Tuesday night. Seven business windows were smashed and cars hit by stones in a predominately Negro area. a beer bottle nearly struck city manager Will B. Tschudy. A pizza parlor operator was struck by a chair. The two youths in custody are 17 and 16. one faces disorderly conduct assault and battery and two counts of destroying property, the other assault and battery disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace. Both are Negroes.

Victim of Turnpike Mishap Dies Today

Mrs. Linda Beck 28 of 2039 A I died at 7 18 a m at Lawrence Memorial Hospital from injuries from a March 24 Kansas Turnpike crash near the west Lawrence interchange. Husband Kenneth 30 died at the scene. Another injured was James P. Jordan 45 of Finksburg Md. who was not seriously hurt. The crash involved Beck eastbound and Jordan westbound cars. Funeral arrangements are pending. This marks Douglas County 4th traffic fatality this year.
