City to study $226000 plan for Farmland site cleanup
Lawrence plans a $226000 contract with GHD Inc to study nitrogen contamination at the Farmland site and draft a new strategy to achieve regulatory closure. The current water pipeline to farmers is insufficient as pumping yields more water and nitrogen than farmers use, prompting calls for a backup approach and public scrutiny. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment allowed the city to release water after storage reached capacity.
