A big bond issue carried the vote with a majority in favor. S R Holloway led the ticket with stronger totals than the bond, while W C McKeen secured election in the same order as primaries. Stevenson will serve as finance commissioner.
In a tight count the Liberty Memorial high school bond won 1551 to 778 after initial losses in North Lawrence. J C Stevenson narrowly led finance, beating Major Lynne Mason 1572 to 1110 with Holloway, Griesa and McKeen topping the school board races. Precinct tallies show bonds passing citywide despite a late misvote error.
Berlin April 2 An investigation into Captain Charles Fryatt’s 1916 execution by German court martial has begun at a national court martial. Representatives of allied governments attend as witnesses, including members of the U-33 crew.
Japan insists no Asiatic nation can be content with a league that enforces racial discrimination. Houston, April 2. William McKinley Hart, charged with murder, was given a 10 year penitentiary sentence. The jury verdict came shortly after midnight. Mrs. Hart fainted when the verdict was announced. appeal was filed. The victim was Pauline McCon nell Hart, young wife of Harold St. Clair McConnell, a soldier of the 83rd Division. Hart also faces embezzlement indictments.
