City Council awards water works contract to Comegys & Lewis

The Lawrence city council, after a week of meetings and an all night session, awarded the water works contract to Comegys & Lewis of New York following a first reading and a seconded amended ordinance. A 250-signature petition urged immediate action, while a city engineer’s report was not read. In a crowded chamber the council passed the ordinance and the mayor announced final passage around 9 o'clock, with thanks given to the citizen committee and officials.
