Impracticable Kaw river freight boat scheme challenged
Mr Winchell of seven miles east of Lawrence, veteran fisherman, told a Gazette reporter that the plan to run boats between Kansas City and Lawrence on the Kaw river is unworkable. He recalled that years ago boats reached Lawrence but the dam and sand bars now prevent navigation for even small craft, much less large boats with freight or passengers.
