Also includes a satirical song about silver and an Appeal to Reason urging workers to organize and study social economics.
Denver reports four more bodies recovered from the Clear Creek canyon flood near Gulden, three deceased men and a young woman, as rescuers search debris miles below Golden. A possible attack on Idaho Springs travelers by brewers is also noted amid ongoing heat and casualties.
A Set gun trap near South Range Wis. killed Fred Winn instantly as he stepped on a deer path. A separate report notes poisoning in Frankfort Ind. of J W Merchant family with one child dead, others ill. Also obituary snippets for Mary Dickens and a Chicago alderman praising Dr King’s New Discovery.
San Diego July 27 jury awards plaintiff Dr J Hearne ten thousand dollars damages in libel action against M H DeYoung publisher of San Francisco Chronicle and J Blunt former San Diego correspondent. Case stemmed from August article alleging Hearne involvement in Amos J Stillwell murder at Kanmital Missouri in 1858. Defendants previously had jury dispute.
The Silver party national committee in St Louis appeals to the American people urging support for William J Bryan and Arthur Sewall. It cites diverse delegations and promotes free coinage for silver, calling for funds to cover campaign expenses and asking for contributions sent to William L St John, 12 East Thirty fourth street New York City.
In Bowmaine Gareox Kentucky during a thunderstorm a bolt struck the wires to Potter college demolishing a telephone box and shocking Vice President Adlai Stevenson and family, along with Prof BE Gabel and family, though there were no injuries. Other notes mention Arthur Sewall seeking views on Watson's nomination and Madrid reports on high warship prices.
Cloudburst near Morrison and Golden floods Bear Creek canyon inflicting at least twenty nine deaths and destroying bridges and property. Denver and Morriston victims include many children. several homes and camps drowned with only partial lists of names. Four women die near Golden while authorities report damaged plants and further identities confirmed by telegraph.
