The Sterling Steel company of McKeesport maker of Wheeler Sterling armor piercing projectiles is in financial trouble as government funds meant for them were diverted. An official says half the appropriation was to go to Carpenter Projectile and the other half to Sterling, but a larger payment to a major steel firm reduced the funds. They have delivered over $300,000 worth of projectiles with approved bills but cannot convert them to cash due to the delay in Congress adjournment. The government appropriation will not be available soon, forcing financial strain on the plant.
