A fragmented report notes officials and participants at an evening session during which tensions rose. The item mentions Gresham seeking rest after disturbances and references unclear names and actions as the crowd dispersed.
The Southwest Kansas Methodist conference completed a five day session and announced district by district appointments including McPherson, Bison, Hoisington, Larned, Marion, Winfield, Wichita and Dodge City districts with presiding elders and numerous named pastors. A vote issue led to a misplaced ballot in a local election. Also noted are a funeral in North Lawrence for Dr. W.S. Riley and a police liquor raid at a restaurant near the post office with charges against John Huson and Bert Walker.
Miss Anna M Bundy a leading pianist from Kansas University Music School presented her graduation exercises at Music Hall Tuesday night before a large audience aided by Prof J A Farrell baritone and violin The program featured Mendelssohn Serious Variations Op 54 Osgood The Little Woman Schumann Kreisleriana Op 16 Goldbeck Dreaming by the Brook Dupont Toccata Op 66 Liszt Liebestraum Liezt Faust Waltz Gorterman Las Adieux Bohm Gavotta Chopin Concerto in E minor Op 11
General Secretary Hall schedules Monday night talks at the Y M C A from April 8 to May 13 on topics such as Home Making by Irrigation in Kansas, German Student Life, Physical Manhood, Banking Evolution, First Aid, and Young Men in Business. A Plymouth church illustrated reading series features Bible selections and a quartette, with soloists. Local court cases, election results, and city notes follow, including fines, council races, and voter turnout.
Local note: a South Lawrence girl plans marriage on April 30. Other items report Wilder S Metcalf traveling to New York and Boston, Mrs L Webster returning from Chicago, and various university and church activities including a reception at the Baptist church for delegates to the B Y P U.
In Pleasant Valley apricots and peach trees are in full bloom. Frank Dunning filed a suit on account in District Court against R M Dunning. Kansas City visitors included Mr and Mrs H F Schmelzer and Mrs Annie Lane Johanson. Zodiac club met at Mrs R D Mason’s residence. Ben Klaas escaped from a private asylum after two weeks. Postmaster Geo Innes returned from an eastern trip, noting signs of spring. A. Lewis leaves as advertising manager for the Gazette to join Kansas City Times as traveling solicitor. Rev J W Sommerville appointed to First Methodist in this city, replacing Rev J K Miller, with transfer to Wellington. Sommerville is tall, married, about 32, arriving next week. Orders for Dr Price's Dream Baking Powder sought for far-off Southern Africa.
The Young People's Good Citizenship group at First Presbyterian Church met Tuesday with a fair turnout. Chairman Rogers opened the session as reports from the peace and resolutions committees followed. An address by Hon. BR. W. Sparr drew praise before the group discussed stronger enforcement of the law.
